A file changes on one laptop and must appear on three others, one of which is offline. What travels over the network, and what happens when two of them edited it?
In file sync, the file itself does not travel. Changed content-hashed chunks go to a block store, then a small metadata commit names the version it replaced. Other laptops pull the new manifest and the chunks they lack. A concurrent edit fails that commit and becomes a conflicted copy, never a silent overwrite.
Your RAG system cannot answer a question whose answer is definitely in the documents. Where is the fault?
Almost always in retrieval rather than generation, and most often in chunking: if the answer was split across a boundary, or sits in a chunk whose surrounding context was stripped, no prompt can recover it. Evaluate the retrieval half separately, because it has a yes-or-no answer that needs no model to grade.
How do you choose a chunking strategy for a document corpus?
Chunk boundaries decide what can ever be retrieved, so you derive them from the questions the corpus must answer and from the document's own structure, then confirm the choice with retrieval recall on a gold set rather than by eye.
