Top 3 Code review Interview Questions
Browse 3 real-world technical and behavioral interview questions about Code review. Review scenarios, edge cases, and architectural best practices.
The assistant wrote a working solution and the interviewer asks for its complexity and one input that breaks it. How do you verify code you did not write?
Read every loop and recursive call, then price each line inside them, because the expensive part is often a library call such as pop(0), a list membership test or string concatenation. Aim inputs at that worst case and at the edges the samples skip, and compare against a slow, simple version on random inputs.
You may use an AI coding assistant in the machine-coding round. What do you still write yourself, and what do you ask it for?
Write the domain model, the interfaces and the code enforcing each invariant yourself, because the grader scores them and a mid-round change tests them. Hand the assistant bounded boilerplate such as records, an in-memory repository, a driver and test scaffolding, and review every line it returns.
An engineer who knows the system better than anyone sends you a badly written docs pull request. What do you push back on?
Review a docs PR by blocking only on things that make a reader fail: wrong facts, missing prerequisites, unsafe order or untested commands. Fix mechanical style yourself, leave harmless voice alone, and keep the expert willing to contribute again.
