Top 3 Edge cases Interview Questions
Browse 3 real-world technical and behavioral interview questions about Edge cases. Review scenarios, edge cases, and architectural best practices.
Your solution passes the sample tests and fails hidden ones. How do you find the edge case without seeing the tests?
Turn each constraint into a test: empty input, one element, the maximum size, duplicates, negatives, totals that overflow a 32-bit integer and inputs big enough to time out. Then compare your solution with a brute force on small random inputs; the first input where they disagree is your missing hidden test.
The assistant wrote a working solution and the interviewer asks for its complexity and one input that breaks it. How do you verify code you did not write?
Read every loop and recursive call, then price each line inside them, because the expensive part is often a library call such as pop(0), a list membership test or string concatenation. Aim inputs at that worst case and at the edges the samples skip, and compare against a slow, simple version on random inputs.
Find the largest sum obtainable from a contiguous run of elements in an array.
Walk the array once, keeping the best sum ending at the current element - that element alone, or that element added to the best run ending before it. The maximum of those is the answer, and the familiar version that resets the running sum to zero is wrong when every element is negative.
